Waxing Before & After Care Guide | Honey Sparkle

Waxing is one of the most effective ways to achieve smooth, long-lasting hair removal. Proper preparation before your appointment and the right aftercare afterward can help reduce irritation, prevent ingrown hairs, and keep your skin healthy between treatments.

Whether you're new to waxing or a regular client, following these simple guidelines will help you get the best results from your appointment.

Before Your Wax: How to Prepare

Preparing properly for your waxing appointment helps ensure that the wax can effectively remove the hair while minimizing discomfort and irritation.

Let Your Hair Grow

For the best results, hair should be at least ¼ inch long, which is usually about 2–3 weeks of growth.

Please avoid trimming or shaving the area immediately before your appointment. This can make it more difficult for the wax to properly grip the hair and may affect the results of your service. Hair that is too short may not be removed properly.

It’s best to allow the hair to grow naturally before your visit.

Gently Exfoliate

Exfoliating 24–48 hours before your appointment helps remove dead skin cells and allows the wax to grab the hair more easily. This can also help reduce the risk of ingrown hairs.

Avoid Heavy Lotions or Oils

On the day of your appointment, avoid applying lotions, oils, or creams to the area being waxed. These products can create a barrier that prevents the wax from adhering properly.

Be Mindful of Skin Sensitivity

For your safety, waxing cannot be performed on skin that is:

• Sunburned
• Broken, irritated, or inflamed
• Experiencing active infections or open wounds

If you are using retinol, tretinoin, Accutane, or strong exfoliating products, please inform your aesthetician prior to your appointment as these ingredients can increase skin sensitivity.

Waxing During Your Cycle

Waxing services can still be performed during your menstrual cycle; however, a tampon or menstrual cup is required in order to proceed with the appointment. This helps maintain proper hygiene and ensures the service can be performed comfortably and safely.

Please note that the skin may be more sensitive during this time, which can make waxing slightly more uncomfortable than usual.

Hygiene Before Your Appointment

Clients are expected to arrive for their waxing appointment clean and freshly showered. Proper hygiene helps ensure the service can be performed safely and comfortably.

If necessary, cleansing wipes may be available before the service begins.

After Your Wax: How to Care for Your Skin

Aftercare is just as important as preparation. Proper care helps soothe the skin, prevent irritation, and keep the area smooth.

Avoid Heat and Sweat

For the first 24 hours after waxing, avoid activities that can increase irritation, including:

• Hot baths or saunas
• Intense exercise or heavy sweating
• Swimming pools or hot tubs
• Sun exposure or tanning beds

These activities can cause additional sensitivity or inflammation in freshly waxed skin.

Wear Loose Clothing

Tight clothing can cause friction and irritation after waxing, especially in sensitive areas. Wearing loose clothing allows the skin to breathe and recover more comfortably.

Wait Before Exfoliating

Allow the skin to recover before exfoliating. Wait 48 hours after your wax before resuming gentle exfoliation.

Prevent Ingrown Hairs

Ingrown hairs can occur when hair grows back and becomes trapped beneath the skin. Regular exfoliation and hydration help keep pores clear and skin smooth.

Using targeted aftercare products can also help reduce the likelihood of ingrown hairs and irritation.

Recommended Waxing Aftercare

Maintaining smooth, healthy skin between appointments often requires the right products. Professional aftercare products can help soothe the skin, reduce redness, and prevent ingrown hairs.

At Honey Sparkle, we recommend Bushbalm aftercare products, which are specially formulated to support the skin after waxing and hair removal treatments.

These products help:

• Prevent ingrown hairs
• Calm irritation
• Improve the appearance of dark spots
• Maintain smooth, healthy skin between appointments

You can explore our recommended products in our Bushbalm Aftercare collection.

Consistency Matters

For the best results, waxing appointments are typically recommended every 4–6 weeks, depending on your hair growth cycle. Consistent waxing can help hair grow back finer and make maintenance easier over time.

At Honey Sparkle, our goal is to provide professional treatments that leave your skin feeling smooth, healthy, and cared for.
